COWBOY KATE
& Other Stories, published in 1968 by photographer Sam Haskins, is one of the most influential fashion photography books to this day. His work visibly influenced a crop of 1960’s fashion photographers, and the evocative, enigmatic photographs have a style and ease that lets you feel you are almost in the moment.
A chance meeting at Tate Britain one rainy afternoon with Sam’s son, Ludwig Haskins lead me to discover Sam’s work, and even begin to collect it. He was a true master of his art and a pioneer of a new fashion storytelling format.
